These are some of the smaller items that are very helpful to have when you are working with bees. Definitely an asset to the beginning beekeeper.
- Smoker. A smoker is a vessel that holds smoker fuel - often pine straw, grass or burlap - that is burned to create a thick smoke. The smoker is used to calm the bees and reduce stings.
- Hive tool. A bee tool or hive tool is just a small metal object that is shaped just right to pry apart supers and frames, the parts of the bee hive. It is also used to remove burr comb.
- Feeding supplies. A beekeeping feeder holds sugar syrup, which is sometimes fed to bees in early spring and in fall.
