
Yes, you will have plenty of company if you use a traditional Langstroth hive. And for a beginning beekeeper, that is probably the best place to start. But if you like to try things that are a bit off the beaten path, check out Warré beehives. This style of hive is supposed to mimic the bees' natural environment - a hollow cavity in a tree - more closely than commercial-style beekeeping equipment. And the management is very hands-off. That can be a relief for some, but for others, it can be too unnerving not to be able to open up the hive and thoroughly inspect each frame.
