Every year, California holds a three-day Small Farms Conference called Small Farms, Bright Futures. Next year's conference is coming right up: March 6-8, 2011. There are scholarships available for farmers and ranchers - the deadline to apply is January 5, 2011. Make sure you get your application in on time!
The conference will feature a tasting reception on Sunday evening, with farm goodies from the San Jose area to sample, as well as cooking demonstrations and wine and food pairings. 25 workshops are organized into tracks: Farmers' Markets, Hot Topics, Production, Farm Management, and Marketing. On Sunday, March 6th, there are also a variety of Field Courses offered - and these may be taken separately from the rest of the conference. Field Courses run all day and are meant to go more in-depth than the workshops.
Looks like a great opportunity for learning a lot about small-scale farming.
