Okay, it's still a little ways away - August 27-29, to be exact, in Oakland, California. But the 2010 Eat Real Festival looks like a great opportunity to get to know fellow farmers, foodies and just to enjoy yourself! Thanks to the upsurge in interest in local, authentic and sustainable food, the festival has expanded this year. With twice the number of food vendors, organizers are hoping lines will be shorter than they were last year.
One of the new developments is an "urban homesteading zone," with demonstrations of backyard chickens, homemade beer and kombucha, vertical gardening, canning and preserving, and more. There will even be butchery demonstrations! If you're in the Oakland area, this sounds like a great learning and networking opportunity.
