Curling up by the fire with the post-Christmas relaxing going on full force? How about some great magazine recommendations to keep you busy? Most of the small farming, homesteading, and hobby farming magazines have vast archives of online content, so you can see what fits your lifestyle, interests and needs before plunking down the cash for a subscription.
But can I make an impassioned plea for a moment? Wait, let me get out my soapbox...okay. Here's the thing. We're all very thrifty, self-sufficient, DIY kinds of folks, I know. But without somebody paying for a real, cash-money subscription to a real, printed magazine you can hold in your hands, great titles like Mother Earth News, Grit, Hobby Farms, and the others I've listed in my article (plus many more worthy titles!) - without the paying subscriptions to keep them in the black, these magazines will no longer be able to exist.
2009 saw the demise of (too) many magazines, and I hope that in 2010 we come to our senses and realize the importance and value of long-form writing, serious how-to information, and support our print magazines - realizing that their "free" online content is subsidized by our subscriptions. So, if you love reading one or more of the magazines on my list, please consider a subscription!
Okay, off my soapbox now. Enjoy your reading!
