A Vegetable Garden at the White House!

Yay! Our First Family will indeed show their support for local food and small farming by tearing up a 1,100-square-foot patch of the South Lawn and planting an organic vegetable garden for use in the White House kitchen. What's more, they're having fifth-grade students from a nearby school, who have grown a school garden for years, come help plant and harvest, cementing connection with the local community.

What a great symbolic step - and a "real," concrete, delicious one, too! - for the Obamas to take toward supporting local food - whether it's your own victory garden, a homestead food plot, or a small diversified farm!
